story

His analysis came true, didn't it openai?

When the practicality, reality and the numbers say a different story.

Serving ads in ChatGPT is the last thing sam altman ever wanted, he said so one day or in this townhall or the one before that (I forgot). Anyway, it has become true now. Personally, I really doubt whether openai can reach $50+ ARPU (annual revenue per user). Normally, I mostly never found google ads useful. I find their ads the least trust worthy, and with google ads I do not have an immediate medium to question their ad suggestions. (historically, now they have gemini, I can open a new tab and put my question there).

But with ChatGPT, I can simply take a screenshot of ads section and ask it right away in the same chat. ChatGPT can measure the trustworthiness of the suggestions right there for me, based on my chat context. And I believe users of ChatGPT will be naturally inclined do it more than the users of google. Assuming LLMs says the truth without bias, they can invalidate the ad suggestions themselves - and corporates do not want that. They want users to believe the ADs they see.

An ad platform that by design works in favour of users more than the payers? So, how is that a sustainable revenue stream?
